nach Matrizennummern geordnet — in Matrix Number order
data compiled and formatted by Christian Zwarg, Berlin

Soon after Odeon records appeared on the market, matrix numbers proceeding independently from catalogue numbers were introduced. While the catalogue number series indicated the country where the finished record was offered for sale, each matrix series belongs to a particular recording location. The matrix series are identified by letter codes that form a necessary part of the number, as each series forms its own numerical sequence. Originally, the initials of the cities where sessions took place were employed (A = Amsterdam, B = Berlin, C = Constantinople, L = London, P = Paris), but this simple method soon found its limits: After less than a year, we find "E" for Cairo ("Egypt") and "F" for Bruxelles ("Flemish"), because the logically expected "B" and "C" were already in use. They solved the problem by allowing multi-letter codes like "Kp" for Copenhagen (German spelling "Kopenhagen") and, curiously, "Ph" for "Fonotipia".
Often, one or more letters were added to the location code to indicate the diameter of the particular recording, or the label type it was intended for (see table below). The size codes usually appear intermixed within the same numerical series, while e.g. the Jumbo and Jumbola series form separate sequences of their own.

Tabelle 2: Für Odeon-Matrizen verwendete Ortscodes / Location codes used for Odeon matrices
Each line in the table below represents a separate numerical sequence, frequently with several sizes intermixed. The table, presumably, is neither complete nor 100% correct, as it is mostly a reconstruction depending on records actually found today and fragmentary recording ledgers. It is not a transcription of an authentic Lindström document and should not be taken as such.
